Police search for causes of fires

Share

Police and fire officials are looking for leads in their investigation into who or what may have caused a recent string of suspicious brush fires in Costa Mesa.

Wednesday, three small fires burned less than an acre of brush in Fairview Park and Talbert Regional Park. Firefighters doused one near the bluffs of the northwest quadrant of Fairview around 3:30 p.m. before noticing more flames down below in Talbert.

Thursday, a larger fire started around 11:30 a.m. and scorched about three acres before crews and an Orange County Fire Authority helicopter controlled the flames.

Costa Mesa Fire Chief Dan Stefano said there is no definitive link between the fires at this time, but they are all considered suspicious.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OCFA at 1 (855) TIP-OCCS or Costa Mesa’s hotline at (714) 754-5656.
