Man convicted of raping, threatening relative

A Laguna Hills man was convicted Wednesday on charges that he raped a teenage relative at a Costa Mesa hotel and then tried to have her kidnapped to prevent her from testifying against him.

Jesus Acosta-Inchaorrondo, 61, pleaded guilty to one felony count each of forcible rape, sodomy by force, solicitation to commit kidnap and dissuading a witness by force or threat, as well as one misdemeanor count of violating a protective order, with a sentencing enhancement for “crime bail crime.”

Prosecutors said Acosta-Inchaorrondo took the girl in August 2012 to a Costa Mesa hotel, where he physically assaulted, sodomized, verbally threatened and raped her. The girl was able to report the crime to the front desk, where a worker contacted Costa Mesa police.

Acosta-Inchaorrondo was arrested a few days later and posted bail after his Lake Forest church raised $100,000 for his release.

That October, prosecutors said he tried to solicit a man to kidnap the girl and send her to Mexico so she couldn’t testify. The man said he would consider it and then contacted Costa Mesa police, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Later that month, an undercover detective met with Acosta-Inchaorrondo, who presented a plan to kidnap the girl and leave her on the streets of Mexico with a warning not to return, prosecutors said. Acosta-Inchaorrondo also provided her description, her school and “the best place to kidnap her,” officials said.

Acosta-Inchaorrondo was arrested a second time following his meeting with the detective.

Acosta-Inchaorrondo faces a maximum sentence of 32 years and eight months in state prison at his March 20 sentencing hearing in Fullerton.
