Man dies after losing control of car at 55 Freeway interchange

A man was killed Tuesday morning after losing control of his car while on a Costa Mesa freeway interchange, officials said.

California Highway Patrol officers received a call at 9:13 a.m. that a red sedan had fallen into a ravine while traveling on the southbound 55 Freeway connector, near Baker Street, from the northbound I-405, said CHP Officer Denise Quesada.

Costa Mesa Fire Department and other personnel responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

Authorities closed the connector until about 12:45 p.m.
