Mary Ann (Chelius) Malek passed away peacefully August 5, 2014 at her home in Santa Ana, CA with her two daughters at her bedside. She was 88 years old.

Born in Reading, PA on October 17, 1925 Mary graduated from Reading High School in 1943. She married Chester Anthony Malek in 1946 shortly after he returned home from service in the US Marines in the Pacific during WW 2.

They raised six children—born between 1947 and 1966— while they were stationed at US Marine Corps facilities in Quantico, VA; Cherry Point, NC; Kaneohe, HI; and El Toro, CA before his retirement and their opening of Chet’s Shell Service in Costa Mesa, CA in 1962.

A wonderful mother, grandmother and great~grandmother, she loved all her children and grandchildren and had a special spot in her heart for her great~grandchildren who put a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face.

She was a devout Catholic, avid CA Angels’ fan and friend to many. Pre-deceased by her husband, Chester, she is survived by her six children, Chester (Dalynn), Dennis, Kenneth (Edith),Trina, Minnette, Robert (Andi) as well as her sister, Madelyn Kane Turner, and brother, Robert Chelius (Barbara), brother-in-law, John Malek (Rosa) and sister-in-law, Virginia Chelius as well as a host of other family members. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and four great~grandchildren.
We will miss you, Mom, but know that you were loved and we wish you eternal peace until we meet again.

She will be buried with her husband in a private ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the dialysis center at St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, 1100 W. Stewart Dr., Orange, CA 92868. Please note her name on the check.
