Lloyd Orville Johnson,
having lived a life
that blessed his wife,
children and friends,
went home to be with
his Lord Jesus Christ on
October 12th, 2012 at the
age of 93.
AMemorial Service and
reunion will be held this
Saturday, November
17, 2012, 10:30 am at Liberty Baptist Church located
at 1000 Bison Avenue, Newport Beach, CA 92660,
reception at the church to follow. All are most
welcome.
During WWII Lloyd served under Douglas McArthur
and was awarded the Bronze Star for an act of danger
and endurance that saved his fellow officers from
capture.
Lloyd was a graduate of the U.S.C. School of
Architecture. He worked for the Irvine Company
as the original Marketing Manager for the 850 acre
Newport Center Development and started the firm of
Johnson – Shelton commercial brokerage in Irvine.
In 1964 the Johnsons, together with other local
couples, were encouraged to start “a ‘Think and Pray’
group which began to reach out to others through Bible
studies and testimony meetings in homes throughout
the Newport Harbor area and in 1964 this group
organized the first Christian Leadership Week and
Newport Beach Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast...(which)
grew to a dozen additional cities and over twenty-five
churches participate and the name changed to Orange
Coast Christian Outreach...” (quoted from (https://
outreachweek.org/about/).
In 1965, the Spirit of God was working in this same
group to create a new local church, now known as
Mariners Church. A video relating the history of
Mariners Church by Lloyd, Joe Aldrich and Kenton
Beshore is provided on the Mariners Church web site
found at https://www.marinerschurch.org/who-we-are/
history.
To his dying breath Lloyd was what is called a real
man.
