Laura Gregg Messer was born to Laura Beagle Gregg and Jacob Ray Gregg on April 16, 1915 in Ontario, Oregon. She passed away in Newport Beach, California on January 26, 2015, just before her 100th birthday. As a young girl her family moved from Oregon to Inglewood, California where Laura attended Inglewood High School and subsequently earned her degree in Education from UCLA where she met her husband of fifty-seven years, John G. Messer. They lived in the Windsor Square area of Los Angeles where they raised their children, Sally Messer Buschek (Alfred), Richard G. Messer (JoAnn Magidow), and John W. Messer (Carol). Laura moved to Newport Beach in 1998.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Christopher Jones (Emily) of Los Angeles, and Erin Messer (Ken Samuels) of San Francisco, her great-granddaughters, Casey Jane Dutton and Riley Laura Dutton of Riverside, Ca., her sister Dorothy Gregg Murray of Raleigh, NC, her niece Marisa Murray Brazelton of Raleigh, NC, and her nephew Gregory Murray (Sally) of Wilmington, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her granddaughter Kelly Messer Dutton of Riverside, Ca., brother-in-law USN Capt. Hugh Quinn Murray and nephews Hugh Quinn Murray, Jr. and Christopher Murray.
During her lifetime, Laura was actively involved with several organizations in Los Angeles including St. James Episcopal Church, The Good Samaritan Hospital, and The Assistance League of Southern California. Her passion for travel took her all around the world. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and creating beautiful pieces of needlepoint, crochet and knit sweaters and dresses. Her family feels so fortunate to have had such a loving person as part of their lives for so many years. And her family will always be grateful to Lorna McCaughan for the loving care she gave Laura during the last five years.

There will be a private interment service at Wee Kirk O’ the Heather Chapel, Forest Lawn Glendale, where Laura and John were married eighty years ago.
