Alan Langston (January 10, 2013)
Alan was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on April 11, 1955. At age four, his family moved to Southern California, where he remained the rest of his life. He began his childhood education in Costa Mesa and graduated from Costa Mesa High School as president of the Senior class. Alan went on to higher education and graduated from USC. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. At an early age, he was anxious to learn to swim and do water related activities. He loved snorkeling, body surfing, and surfboarding. In high school, he was on the swim and water polo teams, continuing to play water polo throughout college. After college, he added mountain biking to his routine and continued surfing and biking until shortly before his death.
As a teenager, he was diagnosed with Diabetes. While this was at first difficult for him to accept, he was able to overcome the challenges it presented and continued to participate and enjoy his interests. To know him, was to know a man who was “all heart”. He was known for his humorous spirit, his kindness and his infectious laugh. Services will be private. At some later date, a “paddle out” ceremony will disperse his ashes in the waters off the shore that he loved so much.
Donations in his remembrance may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
