Juanita Lucille Howard Lauer

Juanita Lauer, 86, of Balboa Island, California, died August 13, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born July 31, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, the second oldest of five siblings. Her father died when she was seven, so in her early teen years she worked cleaning houses to help support the family. One of her clients moved to California and brought her along with them. This family’s son, John Lee Lauer and Juanita married on February 12, 1949. The newlyweds moved to Biloxi, Mississippi where John served in the Air Force, but was eventually stationed in Riverside, California at March Air Force Base where daughters Pam and Amy were born. John moved the family to Glendale where he could work in real estate with his father. Juanita worked for the Glendale Public Library until 1978 when she and her two daughters relocated to Balboa Island. She worked for Pacific Mutual until retirement in 1985, then she worked for Pension Plan Management until 2000. Juanita helped both daughters complete their college degrees. Her door was always open and she befriended many of her daughters’ friends. She was a hard worker with high standards. Juanita enjoyed walking the Island, reading, senior casino trips, playing bridge, watching old movies, and having Sunday dinners and games with her family. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Peter Powell; grandchildren Ben (Emily), Casey (Cristyn), Jenny and Katie Powell.
Please join the Powells in celebrating her life at a luncheon at their home, 2583 Willo Lane, Costa Mesa, Saturday, September 17, from noon to 3 PM.
