Joy Owens July 21, 1932 - March 8, 2014

Joy Owens, a longtime resident of Irvine, California, peacefully passed away with her friends and family by her side. A patron of the arts and leader in the Irvine community with the Irvine Dance Academy (1976-2004), she touched many lives with her passion for dance, beautiful recitals and award winning dance competitions.

She was born in Trinity County near Groveton, Texas on July 21, 1932. She met and married Max Owens and had 2 children. She attended University of Houston. She moved with her family to Irvine in 1972. Joy loved Southern Califronia and was active in many charities and philanthropic organizations. She was involved with Women of Chapman, Encore Circle of the Irvine Barclay Theatre and the Center Stars. Joy was also a founding member of the Stage Door of the Guilds of Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

She is survived by her children, Jan Stark of Newport Beach, CA and John Owens of Valencia, CA and her 9 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Oran & Doris Lee, of Plano, TX as well as 3 nieces and 4 nephews from Texas and 1 nephew from New Mexico.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 28 at The Chapel at Mariners Church in Irvine at 11:00 am followed by a private family interment at Pacific View in Corna del Mar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joy’s memory to workingwardrobes.org
