Heaton, Curtis Wert

January 16, 1927- December 10, 2012

It is with great sadness that the Heaton family announces Curt’s passing.
Born in Columbus, Ohio he was the youngest (with sisters Betsy McKee, Tossy Jeffries, Marcy Masoner) of four and the only son. Curt served in the US Army from 1945-47. Using his construction skills he led a unit as a Master Sergeant in the Engineering Corp. rebuilding bridges in post-war Germany. Upon his return Stateside, he attended Purdue University where he played defensive tackle on the Boilermaker Football team. Upon graduation North American Aviation “shipped him out west” to live and work in Los Angeles. Curt met his bride, Nancy Jane Scoles in 1951 at a USC party and the newlyweds married in 1953. From 1953 to 1960, they started a family together while Curt worked as a flight test engineer for the US government at Edwards Air Force Base. They moved from the Mojave Desert to Orange County where Curt spent the balance of his career with the US Government as a project management engineer responsible for oversight of our country’s satellite tracking installations around the world.

Curt retired to enjoy family and his passions for classic cars, snow skiing and the annual excursion to Kodiak, AK for the Silver Salmon run. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Nancy, children: Scott Heaton (Meredie), Tracy Ellis (Art) and Perri Pendleton (Don) and eight grandchildren.

Curt will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.
