Los Angeles Galaxy soccer player Jack McBean, the former Corona del Mar High standout, and NFL official Laird Hayes highlight those involved in the inaugural KidWorks Classic Golf Tournament at Aliso Viejo Country Club April 29.

In addition to McBean and Hayes, former athletes expected to appear are former USC great Paul McDonald, former UCLA quarterback Wayne Cook, former USC fullback Brandon Hancock and former UCLA quarterback Matt Stevens.

April Ross, the Olympic silver medalist and former Newport Harbor High volleyball standout, was scheduled to appear, but could not as she will be competing on the FIVB Tour.

After the charity golf tournament, McDonald will be the guest host for a dinner. Hayes, a Newport Beach resident and retired Orange Coast College professor, will share, “some life philosophy and most importantly their personal reason for supporting KidWorks, Santa Ana,” a press release said.

There will also be an auction for items including a basketball signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a football signed by Matt Barkley, as well as other sports memorabilia.

KidWorks, founded in 1993, has the mission of providing at-risk inner-city youth with the educational and cultural tools that will guide them into a productive life that will not only offer individual success but will also impact the overall strength and growth of their community.

Preston Fetrow and Joe McGhie will chair the charity golf event.

The playing field will consist of 144 golfers with an expected financial goal of raising $100,000 for KidWorks.

Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz will be the hole-in-one sponsor positioning a new 2013 C250 sedan on the greens.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available beginning at $500, and a few spots in the tournament format of a four-person scramble may still be reserved at $250 per golfer by registering online at kidworks.webconnex.com/golfclassic, or call Lisa Gels at KidWorks, (717) 834-9400.
