Our family wishes to share the news that our beloved Gerry has gone to be with our Lord on October 1, 2014 at the age of 86. Geraldine was the oldest of 3 children born to William Clarence Curley and Grace Geraldine Fox-Curley on July 2, 1928 in Santa Barbara, CA. In 1935, they moved from Ventura, CA to Beverly Hills, CA. Gerry graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1946; afterward, she attended UCLA while caring for her two younger brothers, Bob and Bill. She met Dr. Maclyn B. Somers while attending the UCLA pre-med program. They were married April 25, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA on the “Bride and Groom” radio program. Over the next 65 years, the family grew to include their children, Marie, Gloria and Bill, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Gerry enjoyed being active with church, family, tennis, civic and social groups. Over the years, she and Mac traveled internationally and domestically on humanitarian missions and to see family and friends.

Gerry was very active with the Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, deacon, as a leader of the couples’ retreats and Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship. She also was an active PEO member for many years. In 2006, Gerry received the Humanitarian/ Medical Missionary award along with induction to the Beverly Hills High School Hall of Fame. Her greatest prayer was that all her children, grandchildren and the whole world would know the joy of a personal saving faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Gerry is survived by her husband Dr. Maclyn B. Somers, daughters, Marie (Bill), Gloria (Dave) and son Bill (Tamara); grandchildren: Juliet, Philip, Lavonne, Scott, Greg, Chelsea, Amanda, Laurel, Carolyn, David and Marie; and great-grandchildren: Harper, Samuel and Lillian. She was preceded in death by her brothers William Curley and Robert Curley, and infant granddaughter, Gerry Vreeland. We extend an invitation to her memorial service at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, CA on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:30 am with a reception to follow.
