Roy Lee Freeman

Roy Lee Freeman passed away peacefully in Newport Beach, CA. on February 26th, 2012. He was born May 13th, 1930 in Riverside, CA. Roy graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in1948 and from the University of Southern California School of Business in 1952. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduation, Roy served in the US Navy during the Korean War, being stationed in San Diego, CA. After his naval service, Roy married Anne Stewart of Hollywood, CA. in 1958 and moved to Whittier, CA. where they raised two children, David and Virginia. They later relocated permanently to Newport Beach where they had kept a summer home for many years. Anne passed away in 1995. In 1999, Roy married Barbara Carr of Newport Beach.

The consummate professional, Roy¹s successful business career included president of Dolco Packaging, regional manager of Willamette Industries and later a ten year career in real estate; first with Waterfront Homes and later with Strada Properties, both in Newport Beach. He was a long time member of the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles, the Round Table of Los Angeles and of Orange County, president of the 552 Club of Hoag Hospital Memorial, and St. Andrew¹s Church of Newport Beach. In his retirement, he devoted his time as a volunteer at the Newport Beach Public Library.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and L. Clay Freeman of Riverside, CA.; his first wife Anne Stewart Freeman of Newport Beach and his son David Stewart Freeman of Venice, CA. Roy is survived by his wife Barbara C. Freeman of Newport Beach; his daughter Virginia Freeman Robb (Don) of Los Angeles as well as his three step-children Ken Carr (Hope), Tim Carr (Julie) and Cheryl Carr Robinson (Kirk) of Newport Beach. Roy was also blessed with 9 grand-children and was known to them all as “Papa Roy”. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Freeman of Seal Beach, CA.

Roy leaves behind many longtime and new friends, each of whom he cherished deeply. He was always there with a welcoming, positive and supportive word that stemmed from a sincere interest in the welfare of others. His zest for life kept him curious and current, always interested in what was happening in the world and in his community. His quick wit, along with his wisdom and generous spirit will be ever appreciated, admired and fondly remembered, as will his presence in the streets of Newport, wearing a Reyn Spooner and cruising in his red convertible; usually with the top down!

A family celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at a later date. His family
requests contributions be made to his favorite charity: Royal Family Kid’s
Camps of Costa Mesa, CA.
