South Coast provides sleek red Donna Karan dress for Jenner shoot

Share

A secret shopping run to South Coast Plaza turned into a grand unveiling of Caitlyn Jenner’s public coming out in Vanity Fair.

For her debut as a transgender Olympian formally known as Bruce, Jenner wore Badgley Mischka, Zac Posen, Herve Leger and a sleek red Donna Karan sheath, scooped up from the company’s South Coast Plaza boutique in Costa Mesa.

That dress, like a few other pieces worn in the shoot, were pulled with the help of the brands without exposing which celebrity was being dressed.

The New York Times reported that Aliza Licht, senior vice president for global communications at Donna Karan helped Vanity Fair fashion and style director Jessica Diehl track down the figure hugging garment at the retail center without the staff’s knowledge.

Jenner was styled in the $2,195 boatneck body-skimming dress, flashing skin through the silhouette’s angular mesh inserts.

The frock was such a favorite of Jenner’s that she was able to keep it, a gift from the magazine.

The company shared the picture in one of the images from the spread with a tweet reading “@CaitlynJenner in red, hot #DonnaKaran for @VanityFair”

The piece is now sold out on Donna Karan’s website.

A Donna Karan spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
