Will Orange Coast College’s new recital hall prove to be a hit? The “Jury” may decide.

The campus’ Opera Magnifica will present the inaugural production in the recently completed venue. “Trial by Jury…and More! A Gilbert and Sullivan Extravaganza” will run from Feb. 21 to 23.

The recital hall is part of a $4.8-million music department renovation project, according to a campus news release. The venue, constructed in a former rehearsal space, has fixed seating for 77 people, stage lighting and state-of-the-art acoustics.

“Trial by Jury” features a twist on the British duo’s classic comic operas, with characters from “The Pirates of Penzance,” “The Mikado” and “Princess Ida” cast in a jury-duty setting. The show includes soloists as well as the OCC Chamber Singers and an instrumental ensemble.
