Lt. Col. Elmer A. “Andy” Anderson, Jr., USMC ret., Naval Aviator, Test Pilot and Aeronautical Engineer, died peacefully Tuesday at his home in Newport Beach. He was 92. Born in 1921 in Linton, North Dakota, Anderson attended North Dakota State University and Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey. Anderson was a proud Marine serving with distinction in WWII and Korea. Anderson later distinguished himself as a military test pilot in the dawn of the fighter jet era leading to a career in aeronautical engineering. He loved his family, surf fishing, sunrise walks, naval aircraft preservation, and serving St. James Episcopal Church. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Katherine “Kappy” Anderson, and survived by five children, Betty Parker, Susan Dick, Fred Anderson, Kay Havens, and Frank Anderson, as well as nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
