Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy Marie Ludovise went to her Lord peacefully while at her Newport Beach home on Friday, December 5, 2014. Dorothy was the most wonderful and dedicated mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and dear friend. For all the days of our lives we will remember and honor Mom’s love, her kind and joyful spirit, her faith in God and her inner strength.

The eldest of five children, Dorothy was born July 2, 1925, in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania to Teresa (Tesla) and Michael Mino. After the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy and her beloved sister Margaret (Margie) attended St. Cyril & Methodius boarding school in Danville, Pennsylvania through high school graduation. Dorothy returned to Cleveland to work at the Better Business Bureau. She excelled in school and in her career, often entertaining her children with amusing stories about her early life experiences.

On December 27, 1946, a friend introduced Dorothy to the love of her life, Orlando Ludovisi, at a Christmas dance and they married exactly one year later. In 1950 they moved from Cleveland to Southern California and lovingly raised their five children in the San Fernando Valley. They relocated to Newport Beach in 1970 and were active members of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church. Dorothy took great pride and enjoyment in her children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments, large and small. She was always delighted to socialize with family and friends, attend Garden Club meetings, challenge family to Scrabble and savor her favorite See’s Chocolates. Worldwide trips were enjoyed with her husband Orlando, in particular Hong Kong, Vienna and Italy. Dorothy was loyal to all and lived a life of grace, kindness and unconditional love.

Dorothy was preceded in death by Orlando (“Ludo”), her husband of 59 years, by her parents, her sister Margaret Linden and brother Eugene Mino. She is survived by her brothers Michael (Sheila) of Lakeland, Florida, and James (Joyce) Mino of North Olmstead, Ohio. Dorothy was cherished by her children Robert, Diane (Steve), Tom (Judy), Nanci (Greg) and Barbara (Paul), and beloved by her grandchildren Sara, Jamie, Emily, Rachel, Shawn, Corey and Jack. Her devoted caregiver Efren Oreiro, his wife Aurora and their children Andrei and Ethan were like a second family to Dorothy, providing her with the best possible comfort and loving care.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. The burial will be at Pacific View Memorial Park, Corona del Mar, CA 92625.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dorothy’s memory to Share Our Selves, 1550 Superior Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92627 or to the Sisters of Saints Cyril & Methodius, Villa Sacred Heart, Danville, PA 17821.
