Dorothy “Dottie” Valentine Hull

A Celebration of Life for Dorothy “Dottie” Valentine Hull, 72, of Corona del Mar will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, July 2 at St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Corona del Mar, where she was a long time and active parishioner. Dottie died June 19, surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Lansdowne, Penn., she attended Lansdowne-Aldan High School and was a star athlete and head cheerleader. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jim Valentine, and they eventually settled their family in Corona del Mar in 1972. While raising their three children, Dottie became one of the most well respected and loved realtors in Newport Beach. Her formidable career began in 1977 with the American Business and Commerce Group, where she made a name for herself selling business opportunities. Two years later, she made the switch to residential properties with the former Unique Homes Brokerage Firm. Quickly mastering the intricate realm of real estate, Dottie prospered immediately, becoming one of the top listing and selling agents in the Newport-Mesa Board of Realtors. In 2002, her daughter Kimberly joined her team, and Valentine Properties was formed. Known for being selfless, caring, kind, bright, witty, fun and organized, Dottie was also praised for being a skilled negotiator. For more than 35 years, Dottie built a strong referral business and even continued serving her clients through her illness.

In addition to her amazing career, Dottie was very involved in the community. She served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, as Girl Scout Leader and spent countless hours donating her time to the Harbor View PFO, Corona del Mar High School Home Tour and Football Booster Clubs. She also served on the Newport Beach Board of Realtors Grievance Committee. Dottie was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing tennis, global travel and spending time with her family and friends. Dottie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, aunt, cousin and sister. After Jim’s passing in 1996 from Lou Gehrig’s disease, Dottie found love again and married Philip Hull in 2004. Together, they purchased a home in La Quinta and spent much of their time traveling and being with their families in Colorado and Newport Beach. Wherever Dottie was, she was there with a beaming smile, a warm hug and an insatiable desire to catch up on your life. Friends and family meant the world to her and she would never miss an opportunity for a gathering. Her greatest joys were helping her children and grandchildren and seeing them excel, as well as driving her 1976 white Jaguar “Seakngs” through the streets of Corona del Mar in her unwavering support of her children’s high school years. She was a “honorary” Trojan - as she put three children through the University of Southern California and loved attending the football games. Her humble upbringing carried throughout her life with grace, affinity and respect, and she lived every day with joy, love and passion.

Her battle with pancreatic cancer was waged with tremendous optimism and courage, aided by the devoted support of her husband, family and her many loving friends.

She is survived by her husband Phil, children Mark (Soni) Valentine, Lorri (Mike) Malloy and Kimberly Valentine-Poska (Fred Poska) and her seven grandchildren: Brittany, Lindsey and Emily Valentine; Courtney, Kelsea and Kyle Malloy; and Matthew Valentine Poska, as well as, her beloved dog, Samantha “Sam”.
