Dorothy Ann Silva (nee Arnold) of Newport Beach California died peacefully at Hoag Memorial Hospital on January 18, 2013 at the age of 87.

Dorothy was born in Fort Thomas Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Louis E. and Dorothy Menninger Arnold. She attended St. Thomas Elementary School in Fort Thomas, Summit Country Day in Cincinnati Ohio, and the University of Cincinnati.

In March of 1946 Dorothy married Chester Arthur Silva and for forty-one years, devoted her life to him and their children while living in Long Beach Indiana, Riverside California and Newport Beach California. Her active life focused on her six children’s activities (swimming, scouting, and PTA), support of her sorority, Theta Phi Alpha, and service with the Altar Society and the St. Maria Goretti Guild at St. Francis de Sales Church in Riverside. During her time in Newport Beach she volunteered at Hoag Memorial Hospital and was a long-time member of the Ebell Club of Newport Beach.

Dorothy Ann’s most admirable quality was her loving and sincere interest in the care, health and comfort of others. She was a gracious hostess and took great pleasure in entertaining family and friends. Dorothy was also an avid athlete and enjoyed playing tennis, horseback riding, golf, swimming and canoeing.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Chester A. Silva, her son, Peter Scott Silva, and her grandson, Nicholas Louis Ravitch.

She is survived by her husband, Willard Reece and her five devoted children: Stephen Patrick Silva (Mary) of Riverside Ca., Sally Silva Badarak (Gary), of Ryland Heights Ky., Susan J. Hayes (Stephen) of Rancho Santa Margarita Ca., Stewart J. Silva (Greta) of Costa Mesa Ca., and Sandra M. Silva Frechette (Jean) of Montreal Canada. Additionally, she leaves eight grand children: Christopher Silva, Molly Silva Gurrola, Sara Hayes Bennett, Sandra Hayes Merten, Hannah Silva, William A. Badarak, Claire Silva, Jules Frechette, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th followed by recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. at St Joachim Catholic Church in Costa Mesa California. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 26th at noon at St Joachim followed by Graveside Services at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary in Corona del Mar.
