R Joseph “Joe” Collins
4-1-22 - 6-7-11

Joe was born in Oakland, CA on April 1, 1922 and passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on June 7, 2011 in Newport Beach, CA. He was raised in Pasadena and served in the Navy during World War II.
After the war he settled in Newport Beach where in the 40’s and 50’s he made a career of building over 400 of the finest homes in the area and many others in Northern California and Sun Valley, Idaho where he was also a ski instructor. In 1956 he developed and owned commercial properties including the Jamaica Inn, a motel, restaurant and nightclub in Corona Del Mar.
Joe was an avid sailor, having sailed in the Sydney Hobart race and several times to Honolulu to name a few. He loved boating, camping in Canada, Alaska and Mexico and traveling. One of his passions was watching his son Kelly as a professional race car driver. Joe always said “he taught him everything he knew”.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Marilynn, two daughters Patricia Mumma and Judy Burns and son Kelly Collins, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and last but not least his beloved JJ (Joe Jr.).
A private gathering of family was held at his home on Friday, June 10th. At Joe’s request a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the Orange County Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals P.O. Box 6507, Huntington Beach, CA 92615 would greatfully accept your donation in Joe’s memory.
