Francis Joseph Brown Jr.
Lt. Colonel, US Army (retired), passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 15, 2011, just 10 days shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 25, 1918 to Frank Sr. and Dorothy Brown. He married Elizabeth, “Betty” Drudy in 1942. Three sons were born of them, Francis III, Thomas Edward and Gerard Drudy. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, and his oldest son Frank III, who passed away in 2006. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Washington and Eileen Giaconia , two sons, Thomas and Gerard, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He served his country honorably on two occasions, during WWII and then again during the Korean war. In 1953, after being called back to active duty, Frank and his family spent 3 years in Germany where he served as a Major and worked as a Contract Administrator. Upon returning to the States Frank got a job working for the Air Force at Hughes Aircraft in Southern California and the family moved to Orange County, where they lived for 51 years. In 2008 he moved to Asheville, North Carolina and resided at Asheville Manor where he made many friends. His last year was spent at The Laurels at Greentree Ridge. Frank was known for his musical abilities, his lively sense of humor and his absolute love of all babies. He loved woodworking and growing roses. He endeared himself to many people along the way and he will be dearly missed. His ashes will be scattered at sea in Southern California in July, where he will join his beloved wife and number one son, as was his wish.
