Betty Jane was called home to be with her Lord on New Year’s Day. She was happily married to Dr. D.W ´Doc” Donahue for over 70 years prior to his passing in ’09 and the loving mother of 5 boys, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. but settled in Southern California in the early 1920’s. Betty attended Beverly Hills High School where she would meet her husband while he attended Loyola High School. They were married August 20, 1938 and honeymooned in Lake Tahoe. She and Doc had 5 boys, Daniel (deceased), Terrance (Andrea), Timothy, Dr. Mick (Sheri) and Patrick (Paula). The boys all attended St. Charles Borremeo grammar school in North Hollywood and Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Ca.

Doc Donahue was a long time general practitioner in the San Fernando Valley and practiced at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank. Betty was the Past President of the St. Joseph’s Guild and actively involved in this charity for many years along with a large group of friends who lived in Toluca Lake and the North Hollywood area. Doc and Betty moved to Calabasas in ’72 and spent 25 years there enjoying the Calabasas Golf Club and making many new friends in the area.

Doc and Betty had a love affair with Hawaii that lasted over 50 years as they would spend 2 months a year in Maui in a small condo they owned with long time army buddy R W Zant.

They moved to Corona del Mar in 1997 to be closer to their sons and families that lived in the area. Betty remained active mentally and physically playing bridge well into her nineties, going on an occasional trip to Las Vegas and attending water aerobics classes within 30 days of her passing. She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother, grandmother and friend to so many. Affectionately known as “the Sarge”, she will be sorely missed.

A funeral mass will be held on Sat. Jan 10 at 11:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, we would request a donation to the Dan Donahue Center/ Kidworks in Santa Ana or the Donahue Family Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks.
