Police: Man still at large

Wednesday was the second time in less than a week that UC Irvine police responded to Gregory Scott Turner’s home on campus on a report of domestic violence, university officials said Thursday.

Turner, 33, is wanted for attempted murder after he tried to strangle his wife to death Wednesday afternoon in their Verano Place home at UCI, police said.

Police were called to his home the first time on Dec. 9 after an argument between him and his wife turned physical, said university spokesman Tom Vasich. Records show Turner was arrested and released from jail Monday. Court records did not show any criminal charges related to that incident.

Wednesday afternoon Turner’s 7-year-old daughter called police after the most recent attack, Vasich said. The couple has a second daughter, 5, who was also at the apartment at the time, he said.

When police arrived at the home, Turner was gone. He drives a royal blue 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck with California license plate 8P53538. School officials report that Turner told a friend he was suicidal.

Turner is an undergraduate at UCI studying criminology. He is described as white, 6 feet tall, 225 pounds with brown hair, brown eyes, clear complexion and a stocky build.

Anyone with information on Turner’s whereabouts can call UCI police at (949) 824-5223 or 911.

Turner’s wife is expected to be released from the hospital and reunited with her daughters Friday. The kids have been in protective custody and the three will be placed in a temporary domestic violence safe house, officials said.
