Newport Beach police arrested a man suspected of breaking into a Balboa Boulevard home while the resident was home, they announced Tuesday.

Jhovany Garcia, 23, repeatedly rang the door bell to a home in the 1800 block of W. Balboa Boulevard before breaking the glass adjacent to the front door, Newport Beach police alleged in a statement.

Police said the resident spotted Garcia standing at the front door of her home and screamed, and police arrested Garcia less than a mile away, near 22nd Street and West Balboa Boulevard.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary.

Police urged residents to never open the door to strangers, bring a phone with them to answer the door and notify visitors they are home without answering the door.
