A woman accused of helping her then-fiance by allegedly lying to police after the murder of two people was released from jail Monday, officials said.

Rachel Mae Buffett, 25, of Long Beach, previously had her bail set at $100,000, but it was reduced to $50,000, a court official said Monday. She was released from jail at 11:49 p.m. Monday, jail records show.

Buffett stands accused of propagating a false story that one of the murder victims had family problems when he did not, and she is charged with three felony counts of accessory to murder after the fact, according to a statement from prosecutors and court records. She has denied the accusation.

Her former fiance, Daniel Patrick Wozniak, 28, of Costa Mesa, stands accused of killing his neighbor from the Camden Martinique apartments then killing his neighbor’s tutor in a scheme to steal money from his neighbor’s account. Wozniak could face the death penalty if convicted.

Buffett’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Her family has started an online fundraising campaign to post bail for Buffett that has so far raised $3,850..
