Share

The Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced the distribution of about $1.3 million in grants to 13 local nonprofits during a Friday morning breakfast in Santa Ana, according to a Komen news release.

The Community Grants Award Breakfast followed Komen’s annual Race for the Cure, which took place in September and raised $3 million. At least 75% of the money raised through the race goes toward breast-cancer awareness programs, medical services for those who are uninsured or underinsured, and other local grants for breast health organizations. The rest goes toward the Komen Award and Research Grant Program for cure research.

The local organizations receiving the funds are:

AltaMed Health Services Corporation, the Asian American Senior Citizens Service Center, Breast Cancer Solutions, Hurtt Family Health Clinic, the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Latino Health Access, the Nhan Hoa Comprehensive Health Clinic, Planned Parenthood Orange and San Bernardino Counties, Share Our Selves (SOS), The G.R.E.E.N. Foundation, the Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation, the YWCA of North Orange County and UC Irvine.
