100 turkeys delivered to SOS

A Southern California health-care college donated a truckload of Thanksgiving feast essentials Tuesday to a Costa Mesa nonprofit.

West Coast University, which has an Anaheim campus and offices in Irvine, gave to Share Our Selves (SOS) 100 18-pound turkeys and 100 boxes of stuffing. The food will be given to needy families in Thanksgiving food bags, said Elizabeth Evans, the marketing and communications manager.

“Obviously having turkey and stuffing in the bags makes a huge difference,” Evans said, adding that the large donation goes a long way in making the holiday special for families.

The nonprofit has given out about 1,000 bags of food since Monday and has another 250 families signed up to pick up bags Wednesday, Evans said.

The nonprofit is also expecting anywhere from 200 to 500 walk-ins Wednesday, Evans said. Wednesday is the last day SOS will be open before Thanksgiving.

The bags are filled with fruits, vegetables, nonperishable items, bread, a dessert item and a chicken or turkey.
