Inoperable cars must move out of public’s view

COSTA MESA — The City Council voted 3 to 2 Tuesday in favor of prohibiting homeowners from parking their inoperable vehicles in the driveway or in the public’s view. Residents who keep inoperable vehicles must park them in the garage, or behind 6-foot-high solid fences and walls, or on a paved area that is not adjacent to streets, according to a city staff report.

Mayor Allan Mansoor and council members Gary Monahan and Eric Bever voted in favor of the ordinance. The changes to it were unanimously recommended by the Planning Commission.

The new law is designed to improve the appearance of residential areas and encourage residents to park their cars in their garages, the report said.
