A Costa Mesa police pursuit ended Monday when the female suspect fled her vehicle and jumped off a San Diego (405) Freeway bridge, police said.
The pursuit began at 10:47 a.m. when an officer on a motorcycle tried to pull the woman over for traffic violations, and she ran red lights and passed other motorists using the side of the road, according to a police news release.
The 33-year-old Costa Mesa woman, whose identity was withheld, was wanted in Los Angeles County for drug-related charges, police said.
About four minutes into the pursuit, the woman stopped her vehicle and jumped from the overpass at Bear Street, according to CMPD Sgt. Zack Hoferitza.
A SIG alert was initially issued because it appeared the woman had been hit by a vehicle. She was transported to a hospital and the SIG alert was canceled, said CHP Officer Denise Quesada.
The woman was unresponsive after she fell to the freeway and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition, Hoferitza said.
Police asked that anyone with information regarding the incident contact Sgt. Ed Everett at (714) 754-5395 or Det. David Casarez at (714) 754-5157.
