Charges dismissed against biker gang leader’s son

Prosecutors on Tuesday dismissed misdemeanor weapons charges against the son of a leader of a biker gang that claims it is a church group and was involved in a brawl with the Hells Angels in Newport Beach in 2008.

Six months after pleading guilty to possessing brass knuckles, prosecutors dropped the charges against Matthew Aguilar of Anaheim as part of a plea agreement for staying out of trouble with the law.

Aguilar was one of several men arrested in 2008 in a multiple-city raid days after a barroom brawl at Blackie’s by the Beach between the Set Free Soldiers and Hells Angels left one man stabbed and another with a head wound. He is the son of Phillip Aguilar, who founded the Soldiers.

Many of the participants in the fight were sentenced to probation or had charges dropped on technicalities. Jose Quinones, who stabbed a Hells Angels member, was sentenced to eight years in prison last year for attempted murder.
