Man charged in alleged kidnapping plot
Prosecutors charged a Laguna Hills man accused of plotting to have his underage teenage relative kidnapped and taken to Mexico, authorities announced Friday.
Jesus Acosta-Inchaorrondo, 58, is charged with soliciting to commit kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, dissuading a witness by force or threat and violating a protective order, according to a joint announcement from the Costa Mesa Police Department and the Orange County district attorney’s office. He also faces a crime-bail-crime sentencing enhancement.
His arraignment was moved to Nov. 15 and bail was set at $1 million at a court hearing Friday.
Prosecutors said Costa Mesa police initially arrested Acosta-Inchaorrondo Aug. 27. He faced charges of forcible rape, sodomy by force, incest and criminal threats.
His church congregation at Iglesia Cristo Rompe Las Cadenas de OC reportedly raise the $100,000 necessary to bail him out of jail, and he was released 11 days after his arrest, authorities said.
This month, Acosta-Inchaorrondo reportedly tried to have his alleged victim kidnapped and taken to Mexico to prevent her from testifying against him. A Costa Mesa detective met with Acosta-Inchaorrondo, and believing the detective could carry out the kidnapping, Acosta-Inchaorrondo told the detective where the girl could be taken and that she should be left on a street in Mexico and threatened to not return, police and prosecutors said.
Costa Mesa police arrested him as he attempted to leave the meeting with the detective. The teenage girl, her family, her school’s administrators and school resource officer have been notified of the attempted kidnapping, and are working with police to ensure her safety, authorities said.
Acosta-Inchaorrondo faces 29 years and eight months in state prison if convicted.
