Note To Our Readers: Pilot to introduce mobile apps, decrease print by one day

Share

The Daily Pilot is evolving to ensure our readers can get their news in a variety of ways — be it print or online, through Facebook posts and tweets, or on their mobile devices. To that end, we have a couple bits of news ourselves.

First, we’re pleased to share that we’ve developed free iPhone, iPad and Android apps so you can more easily access the Pilot’s coverage on your phones and tablets. We have spent the last several months building a clear, simple interface that will put breaking news, sports, entertainment, opinion and community happenings at your fingertips. Look for it in your respective app stores beginning Nov. 1.

Second, we’re making changes to our print edition. The Pilot will be published Wednesdays through Sundays, with the Nov. 6 election day issue being our final Tuesday edition. We will also now feature longer stories on the days that people generally have more time to read them, particularly on weekends.

There will also be a minor change to how the newspaper is distributed in racks and at retail locations. Rather than being included inside the Los Angeles Times, the Pilot will now be made available for free in standalone racks and at select outlets throughout Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. Times subscribers will continue to receive the Pilot inside the newspapers delivered to their homes in the Newport-Mesa area five days a week and in Irvine on Sundays.

As our readers continue to migrate to the digital world and seek more frequent updates, we are realigning so our web editor will play an increased role in the newsroom.

We plan to post stories at the times when readers visit us most and, of course, break news around the clock. There will be new emphasis on our breaking news blog, OC Now, and DailyPilot.com will continue its mission of being fast and first in this market.

The news business is evolving, and we too need to adjust and meet our readers wherever they like to find us — in print, on their tablets or at DailyPilot.com.
