Paddle the harbor with Newport mayor

Local paddleboarders can hit Newport Harbor with Mayor Nancy Gardner Saturday morning as she cruises around Balboa Island.

The mayor will take off from China Cove at 9 a.m. sharp. Paddleboarders, as well as kayakers, canoeists and other watersport enthusiasts, can join her at the staging area, or meet up with the group anywhere along the 3.75-mile route.

They are scheduled to pass Bayside Beach about 9:10 a.m., the public pier on Little Balboa Island about 9:25 and the Balboa Island pier about 9:45. Then, the mayor will loop back to China Cove where refreshments will be available on the beach.

Participants must bring their own equipment.
