An elderly Irvine woman reported missing and who was suffering from the onset of dementia has been found in Tijuana. She is reported to be OK, police said Tuesday.

Police and relatives of Rosalie Delite Smith, 84, said Smith first reported being lost in Newport Beach on Monday evening while on her way home from a doctor’s appointment.

About 4 p.m. Tuesday, Irvine detectives got word from Smith’s daughter that she had gone to a medical facility just across the border and was disoriented and confused, but otherwise fine.

Smith was reported missing late Monday. She called her sister about 6:30 p.m. that day to say she was lost but on her way home. Nearly two hours later, an employee at a Gold’s Gym in Fullerton called Smith’s family and said she had just been there and was given directions on how to get home.

Smith had her cell phone on her but the battery was dying, police said. That was the last anyone heard from Smith.

She has been diagnosed with onset dementia and diabetes. She had been traveling with her small white poodle named Bree, who also made the trip with her across the border. Police said there are no suspicious circumstances around the case, but will continue to assist the family.
