The 21st Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Fashion Island raised more than $2 million in fundraising, event representatives said.

As of Wednesday, the event raised $2,071,763 of which 75% will pay for breast health services, education, mammograms and other financial support for those who are uninsured or whose insurance does not sufficiently cover treatment, according to representative Carlie Wilhite and a statement about the event.

The remainder goes to the Komen Global Research Fund, according to the group’s website.

The final tally was not yet known because fundraising will continue through Oct. 31, when participants need to turn in donations.

Wilhite said 18,505 participants registered at the race, and organizers estimated about 25,000 people attended Sunday’s event.

More than 1,000 breast cancer survivors held up pink roses in the Survivor Tribute ceremony Sunday as white doves were released, Wilhite said.
