Police say missing woman committed suicide

NEWPORT BEACH — A 50-year-old woman whose decomposed body was found Aug. 22 in Newport Harbor is believed to have committed suicide, police said Monday.

Newport Police Lt. Bill Hartford declined to comment on how Swee Ai Oh might have killed herself.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Office said the case is still under investigation.

Oh’s body was discovered by fishermen. She was reported missing by her family on Aug. 12 after she was last seen leaving for a walk in the Back Bay.

Hartford said one of the police detectives involved in the case was on hand when the coroner ruled the cause of death a suicide.

Contacted Monday, Sigal Mitchell, a supervising deputy with the coroner’s office, said the office is still investigating.
