CMU candidate forum set

Share

Costa Mesa United has changed its City Council and Newport-Mesa school board candidates forum to Sept. 20.

The previous date conflicted with the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur.

The nonprofit is inviting all the candidates for the school board and Costa Mesa council races. The forum’s theme is “Academics, Athletics and Activities” and will be moderated by Costa Mesa United President Gordon Bowley.

“Our community is shaped by the vision and leadership of the Costa Mesa City Council and the Newport-Mesa Unified District’s Board of Education,” Bowley said in a prepared statement. “Our community is not only interested in the material infrastructure of roads and buildings, but in new family attractants, such as schools, facilities and the expansion of youth-oriented assets.”

The event will start with a meet the candidates hour at 6 p.m., followed by the forum from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will be at the Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave.
