An unidentified man was injured on Jamboree Road south of Bison Avenue in Newport Beach on Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash.

Police determined that the man’s black, four-door sedan apparently struck the center median before crashing into a tree as he was traveling northbound on Jamboree at about 10:55 a.m.

Newport Beach Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Boyles said that the car’s front end was completely smashed by the impact and the driver was trapped inside.

Boyles also said that Newport Beach Fire Department Truck 63 responded to the scene and applied the Jaws of Life to the front driver’s side and passenger doors, extricating the man from the vehicle in less than 10 minutes.

First responders transported the man, incurring multiple unknown injuries, to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. The cause of the incident is unknown, though police are investigating.

A SigAlert was issued in connection with the incident following the crash, though police confirmed that the road had reopened by late afternoon.
