Stanley Cup visits NBPD

This summer, the Stanley Cup has been on quite an adventure.

It’s been a big sippy cup for chocolate milk, traveled in a boat across the waters of Slovenia’s Lake Bled and visited Russia, to name a few.

But on Tuesday, NHL’s storied trophy made an excursion into Orange County.

Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Penner brought the Stanley Cup to the Newport Beach Police Department at the request of K-9 Officer Mike Fletcher, a lifelong Kings fan, according to police.

Penner, who has an off-season home in Newport, met with members of the department and their families and posed with the coveted cup.

Since the Kings won in June, the trophy has also traveled throughout Southern California, Canada and the northeastern United States.
