New businesses coming to Harbor Boulevard

Flame Broiler, Taco Bell, AutoZone and NuVision Federal Credit Union will take up vacancies in a new retail hub on Harbor Boulevard, the developer confirmed this week.

The businesses will stand alongside the recently opened Sonic, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market and Chick-fil-A on a 10-acre area near the 405 (San Diego) Freeway offramp, between Gisler Avenue and Nutmeg Place.

Renovations are also being completed to an existing McDonald’s, liquor store and laundromat also on site.

“We really think that it’s going to be a great neighborhood center,” said Bill Lang, president of Commerce Realty, the site’s owner and developer. “Especially with the addition of Fresh & Easy, it’s going to be incredibly convenient for people on their way home who want to stop by and get their shopping done.”

The Flame Broiler and NuVision are in the process of moving into the 7,500-square-foot, four-tenant building, which is still under construction, at 3195 Harbor Blvd. The credit union is expected to open by the end of the month and Flame Broiler within three months, Lang said.

It will be Flame Broiler’s fourth corporate-operated location, said its president, Young Lee.

The Costa Mesa-based company has more than 100 franchise locations nationwide, he said.

“We go where the demand is,” Lee said. “As we’ve done in the past, we go one day at a time. We simply do the best we can for each franchise.”

Two more corporate-operated locations may open in a 5-mile radius of Costa Mesa in the next few months, he said.

Taco Bell and AutoZone will move into the spaces near IHOP in the next four months, Lang said.
