A tow truck struck an apartment building Monday in Costa Mesa, authorities said.

No one was hurt, but a resident was displaced from the home in the 300 block of East 20th Street.

Firefighters responded to the scene after receiving an emergency call about 12:50 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond.

While moving a car, the truck somehow got into gear, rolled and then hit the building, Diamond said.

Firefighters deployed three fire engines, one fire truck and the urban search & rescue team. Diamond said the team examined the building to ensure that no one inside was injured.

The building incurred some structural damage, according to Diamond, and responders shored up the building so it would be safe to reenter.

Wood framing and a window sill appeared damaged, according to a photograph published by the Orange County Register.
