Costa Mesa police arrest ‘skinhead’ in stabbing

A self-described “skinhead” was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a man multiple times, police said Wednesday.

Andrew James Jurjaks, 29, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Costa Mesa police.

Police found the 36-year-old victim bleeding from wounds on his left arm and back about 4:20 a.m. Tuesday at the Circle K market, 111 Del Mar Ave., according to a news release. The victim was transferred to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The victim was stabbed multiple times with a folding knife, according to police. He and Jurjaks allegedly got into a fight at the Regency Inn, 2544 Newport Blvd., where Jurjaks had rented a room.

Information led officers to an apartment in the 2300 block of Elden Avenue, where Jurjaks was spotted leaving in a taxi about 10 a.m. Officers pulled over the cab in the 200 block of 20th Street and arrested Jurjaks without incident.

He was booked and later transported to Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $500,000.

Investigators do not believe that the incident is gang- or drug-related or motivated by robbery.

His brother, Chad Jurjaks, 31, was sentenced in February to two years and eight months in prison for two felony counts of hate crime battery causing injury relating to his attack on two Latinos entering a 7-Eleven in Costa Mesa in March 2010.

An investigation into Tuesday’s incident is ongoing.
