ORANGE COAST COLLEGE
MALE AND FEMALE ATHLETES OF THE YEAR 2011
Sophomore outfielder Matt Moynihan, the 2010-2011 OCC Male Athlete of the Year, led the Pirates with a .450 batting average, while racking up 50 hits in 111 at-bats, with 32 runs, 7 doubles, 3 triples, one home run, 30 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 16 attempts. Moynihan is trying to become the first OCC player to finish the season with a batting average above .400 since current Major Leaguer Donnie Murphy accomplished the feat in 2002 (.422). Moynihan could set the school's all-time record for highest batting average, currently held by OCC Hall of Famer Joey James at .443, set in 1986. Following his career at OCC, he will attend the University of Texas.
Women's Cross Country/Track
Sara Toberty has been setting the pace for the OCC cross-country and track and field teams throughout the fall and spring semesters. On the cross-country team, she led the Pirates to their 15th straight Orange Empire Conference title, as well as fourth-place team finishes in the Southern California Regionals and CCCAA state meet. Toberty won the OEC title with a 5K time of 18:52.4 and finished in the top 10 in both the SoCal Regionals and the state meet, placing eighth in each. This spring she set a new school record in the 3,000 with a time of 9:47.67 at the Coast Invitational, nearly a minute faster than the rest of the field. Toberty is currently the state leader in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 events. She plans to transfer to UCLA and continue to compete.

Christian de Glymes' athletic career at Vanguard has been one of school records, personal bests and numerous awards — repeatedly named All-GSAC, top finisher in every race in 2009, Athlete of the Year, NAIA Scholar Athlete, personal bests in 8K, school records in 10K and 3K, Most Inspirational Athlete, and returned as team captain. He finishes his career as one of the most decorated Lion runners. According to Coach Bryan, "Christian has been an amazing gift to our program … an extremely hard worker, outstanding leader, exceptional student, Christ-follower, and true teammate." de Glymes' has now graduated, having pursued a major in sociology.
Sara Boyd returned to the Lions for her senior season, after already having a spectacular career at Vanguard. She had earned All-GSAC honors with exceptional player statistics, including ranking seventh in the nation for total assists, 10th in assists per game and first in assist to turnover ratio. She has continued to be one of the outstanding players for the Vanguard Lions. Boyd believes that basketball has taught her that hard work pays off and has now graduated, having majored in kinesiology. She plans on a career as a physical therapist.
Tomislav Colic has completed his fourth and final season and sensational athletic career with the Vanguard Lions. Repeating as team captain, Colic's credits have included NAIA Second-Team All-American, and season scoring leader. He has been playing soccer for 16 years, played club soccer in Serbia and hopes to play professionally after having graduated from Vanguard as an international business major. Coach Dodge considers Colic both a team leader and the hardest working player on the team.
Gabriela Bergmoanova transferred to Vanguard as a sophomore from Auburn University and began this past year as a junior, team captain, and one of the best players in the country. As a sophomore she was the top-ranked player in the NAIA with a 22-1 record in the top spot in Vanguard's lineup. Described as hard-working and dedicated to improving all aspects of her life, Bergmoanova is pursuing a major in international business and hopes to pursue a successful career in business.
