Man in police standoff charged with rape, assault

A Corona del Mar man accused of barricading himself inside his home Monday morning for several hours after meeting a woman the night before faces a slew of felony charges and could face decades behind bars.

David Charles Wilson, 48, was charged with three counts of rape and sexual penetration with a foreign object, felony aggravated assault, criminal threats, forced oral copulation, false imprisonment by violence, and one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing police, prosecutors said Wednesday.

He faces up to 58 years in prison if convicted. His arraignment was continued to June 3.

According to prosecutors, Wilson had met the 29-year-old victim months earlier and had spoken with her on the phone several times before she went to his Cameo Shores home Sunday night.

Once the woman was inside his home, authorities said Wilson choked her and threatened her if she didn’t cooperate.

He’s accused of raping her repeatedly in various rooms inside the home and penetrating her with his fingers, a pen and a toothbrush.

One of the woman’s friends knew Wilson and her friend were meeting and about 12:30 a.m. Monday started calling her friend’s phone but got no answer.

At 3 a.m., the woman’s friend went to Wilson’s home and started calling out for her friend from the front of the house, prosecutors claim.

The victim escaped the house and ran to her friend’s car. During all the commotion, officials said, a neighbor called police.

Seven hours after police responded, Wilson surrendered peacefully. He was unarmed.
