The city of Costa Mesa on Thursday announced several openings for police officers.

The authorized positions, which were already budgeted, are 10 full-time and 10 reserve officers, according to a city news release.

“It’ll get the department to full strength,” said city CEO Tom Hatch, “and the reserve officers will further support the Police Department.”

A part-time recruitment analyst with the city’s human resources department, at the cost of about $2,400 a month, will partner with the Police Department for the hiring process. The staffer will work about 20 hours a week for as long as needed in the foreseeable future, Hatch said.

Annual starting salary for a new Costa Mesa police officer is $71,000 and includes “excellent benefits,” while reserve officers earn $33 an hour.

“We’ve been recruiting for these positions,” Hatch said. “We’re just further emphasizing and promoting the fact that we’re looking for good people, good dedicated people to serve the city of Costa Mesa.”

Those interested in applying can find more information on the city’s website. Those with hiring questions can contact Sgt. Larry Hicks at (714) 754-5030 or Sgt. Phil Myers (714) 754-5074.
