A Santa Ana man stole a decorative dagger from Costa Mesa Councilman Gary Monahan’s restaurant and bar, police said Monday.

Conner Craig Schryver, 24, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of three felony charges of burglary, felony possession of stolen property and felony vandalism related to an incident at Skosh Monahan’s.

He is being held on $50,000 bail at the Orange County Jail, according to a Police Department news release.

Schryver is also suspected of a residential garage burglary in the 2000 block of Marian Way and a vehicle burglary in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue, according to a preliminary investigation.

At 6:48 a.m. Sunday, police responded to calls of a man with a stick climbing down the second-story roof of Skosh Monahan’s. The man appeared to be bleeding from his arm, a witness reported.

Police couldn’t find the suspect, but established a perimeter around the residential neighborhood. In a search of the Newport Boulevard restaurant, police found a broken exterior window and damaged items inside.

A witness also reported a suspicious male running and jumping fences on Marian Way, about half a mile away from Skosh Monahan’s.

Schryver was arrested without incident in the 2000 block of Orange Avenue and was found with an 18-inch decorative dagger tucked in his belt, some rope around his shoulder and several small tools. He had a 6-inch cut on his left arm, according to the CMPD.

The dagger was allegedly stolen from the councilman’s sports bar. Schryver told police he had been drinking Saturday night and was collecting the items for his “survival,” according to the release.
