Costa Mesa may ban sex offenders from city parks

Share

Sex offenders would be banned from entering parks under a new ordinance to be considered at Tuesday’s Costa Mesa City Council meeting.

Council members will vote on the ordinance, which follows the countywide law passed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors last April.

If approved, registered sex offenders could not enter city-owned parks and sports facilities without written permission from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, according to a city staff report.

In other council business, a public hearing will be conducted on the proposed extension of Target’s nonholiday operating hours. Under the new hours, Target would be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

The store, located in the Costa Mesa Square shopping center on Harbor Boulevard, currently closes at 10 p.m. daily.

Also taking place is a second public hearing that will focus on a parking garage for a proposed 113-unit residential complex at 421 Bernard St.
