Coast gives interim vice chancellor job permanently

The Coast Community College District has made Andreea Serban its permanent vice chancellor of educational services and technology.

Serban, who has served in the position on an interim basis since October, will officially become vice chancellor May 1.

“Dr. Serban will help Coast Colleges continue to provide pathways for our students to attain their educational goals,” district board President Jim Moreno said in a prepared statement. “Her expertise in technology and educational programs are well respected throughout the state and we are confident that she is a good addition to our leadership team.”

Serban has served as superintendent/president of Santa Barbara City College from 2008 to 2011, and vice chancellor of technology and learning services at the South Orange County Community College District from 2006 to 2008.

At the South Orange County district, she also held positions as director of institutional assessment, research and planning, and associate vice president for information technology, research and planning.

She has a doctorate and master’s degrees in higher education administration from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Bucharest.
