A homeless sex offender known to frequent Newport Beach and Costa Mesa was released from jail Tuesday — hours after he was sentenced to two years in prison, according to authorities.

Curtis Regulus, 40, pleaded guilty to three felonies and was sentenced in court earlier this week for rubbing himself against a 14-year-old girl on a bus and again as she waited to cross the street, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Inmate information from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department shows Regulus was released from jail about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday based on credit for time served since his June 24, 2010, arrest.

Regulus, who has a history of pushing his pelvis against others, has six convictions for similar offenses dating from 2007, according to court records.

In 2010, he was arrested at a Juice It Up! on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa for bumping his pelvis against a woman’s buttocks. He pleaded guilty to the offense about one month later and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, according to court records.
