Death recommended for O.C. rapist

A jury recommended the death penalty Wednesday for a Stanton man who strangled, raped and physically assaulted women around Orange County — including a masseuse in a Costa Mesa motel room —according to prosecutors.

FOR THE RECORD:
An earlier version of the story incorrectly said the masseuse in Costa Mesa was killed.

The same jury found Waymon Livingston, 29, guilty Feb. 27 of one felony count of special-circumstances murder in the commission of sodomy, three felony counts of forcible rape and one felony count of aggravated assault, the Orange County district attorney’s office said in a news release.

He raped a motel housekeeper in Stanton in October 2006 and a private masseuse in a Costa Mesa motel room in May 2007, according to the release. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on whether he raped a prostitute in an Anaheim parking lot in August 2005.

While in custody, Livingston was linked through DNA to the September 2007 murder and sodomy of a 21-year-old prostitute from Sacramento in an Anaheim motel room.

Two more victims came forward after media coverage of the case, according to the district attorney. In October 2007, he physically assaulted a prostitute in an Irvine hotel room and raped and attemped to strangle a woman in a Fullerton hotel room.

Livingston’s sentencing is scheduled for April 26 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
